    about.….Pilates

Pilates allows you to transform the way your body looks and feels by working  several muscle groups simultaneously through smooth continuous motion with a particular concentration on strengthening and stabilizing the core (the abdomen, back and pelvic girdle) often referred to as the “Power House”.  Pilates helps you build muscle without excess bulk while helping you achieve a sleek toned body.

Joseph H. Pilates, born in Germany, developed the Pilates Method in the 1920’s.  He was a frail and sickly child determined to get stronger.  During the First World War, as an orderly, he attached springs to the hospital beds to help rehabilitate his patients.  This was the beginning of a spring based exercise system he developed resulting in stronger and leaner muscles.

Joseph was innovative  in the field of complete body fitness by using Eastern techniques of  breathing and mental focus while improving health and fitness utilizing proper alignment and functional movement.  More than 80 years after its introduction, Joseph Pilates’ innovative method of exercise is one of the most popular and effective forms of body conditioning available.

At CoreBody Designs Pilates & Yoga we incorporate modern knowledge of biomechanics and functional anatomy with the original methods of Joseph Pilates.  Exercises are designed to focus on controlled movements that re-align your body to its optimal functionality.  You become aware of the enormous impact that a slight adjustment to the movement has on the body as a whole. Through this awareness, you re-educate the musculature to bring physical harmony and balance to the body. This in turn releases tension, diminishes pain, and improves the way the body functions, looks and feels.
